Family-friendly Big Draw Festival to return to Milford Oct. 8

September 10, 2022

The Big Draw Festival Delaware, presented by Mispillion Art League, will offer family-friendly art activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, on Park Avenue in downtown Milford.

The league is organizing this year’s theme, Come Back to Color, as a way for the community to gather and celebrate the joy of color, family, culture and heritage by creating art through experimentation and creativity.

One of the many activities this year is to make a big drawing on a giant wall of paper that will stretch down Park Avenue. Using their imaginations, participants can experience the joy of coloring with markers on a vertical surface. Kids are encouraged to show their creativity and use the whole surface from top to bottom.

The activity has the added benefit of building core and shoulder strength, and making directional terms like up, down, left, right, much easier to understand because children can relate the words to their very own bodies. It also may be beneficial for kids who can’t sit for long periods of time since everyone will be standing while creating; plus, it’s just plain fun.

There will be sandcastle building, sidewalk drawing with chalk, painting pumpkins, and a variety of drawing and painting activities for participants of all ages.

First organized in the United Kingdom 22 years ago, the Big Draw Festival is now the world’s biggest celebration of drawing. It promotes the universal language of drawing as a tool to learn, express and invent.
