Family Promise seeks Do More 24 donations

Local affiliate offers homelessness prevention, financial assistance
February 21, 2021

Imagine being the parent or guardian of homeless children, sharing a motel room and trying to support virtual learning for school-aged children.

For 10 families with nearly 30 children, there is uncertainty about what’s ahead March 31 when their winter shelter closes. What will happen to them?

Family Promise of Southern Delaware is dedicated to helping these children and their families achieve permanent housing in Sussex County.

An affiliate of the national organization, Family Promise of Southern Delaware provides year-round support for homeless families with children. The local organization is beginning to offer homelessness prevention and financial assistance to selected families like these. Ideally, the intention is to help families stay in their current housing by improving relationships with landlords or with friends and relatives. Life skills training in household finance and job search helps provide a needed foundation in maintaining stable housing. Family Promise supports the selected families for several months as they restabilize.

Family Promise is participating in the United Way’s #DoMore24 giving campaign March 4-5.  Donations during that 24-hour period will help Family Promise of Southern Delaware qualify for additional grant funding during the campaign.
