Film society, CHEF to present 'Carmen' Nov. 1 at Cape HS
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation will present The Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of Bizet’s famous opera “Carmen” at 12:55 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Cape Henlopen High School Theater.
Richard Eyre’s mesmerizing production of Bizet’s steamy melodrama returns with mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili singing her signature role as the fickle gypsy temptress Carmen. Aleksandrs Antonenko plays her desperate lover, the soldier Don José, and Ildar Abdrazakov is Escamillo, the swaggering bullfighter who comes between them. Award-winning Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the irresistible score, which features one beloved song after another.
In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scenes workings This celebrated production is the third in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of live simulcast transmissions for the 2014-15 season.
