July 4, 2018

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, July 7, at George H.P. Smith Park in Lewes.

Lots of heirloom and hybrid tomatoes are now coming in. Yellow and white peaches, blueberries, cherries, raspberries, fresh-picked corn, cabbages, beets, hot peppers, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, lamb, beef, eggs, yogurt, ice cream, artisanal cheeses and much more can also be found at the market.

At 9 a.m., Jennifer Noonan, Lewes Public Library children's librarian, will read Caldecott Honor Book "Tops & Bottoms" by Janet Stevens.

At 10 a.m., Chef Raul Rodriguez from Fish On in Five Points will demonstrate how to make Bennet Orchards Blueberry Toast with whipped Brie, pickled shallots, micro greens and seed nut bread from Old World Breads.

The HLFM Outdoor Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery is also open from 8 to 11 a.m. every Wednesday at Crooked Hammock Way and Kings Highway in Lewes.

The market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the market. WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons will also now be accepted at both the Saturday and Wednesday markets.

The market provides a veggie valet service to help customers carry heavy items back to their cars. This service is located right outside the HLFM Information Tent.

The market is open rain or shine. However, if it rains July 7, the market will not be not be able to be relocated to Shields Elementary School Parking lot due to shuttle parking for the St. Peter's Art Show. Instead, it will relocate to the parking lot behind the Fred Thomas building at the end of DuPont Avenue adjacent to George H.P. Smith Park.
