Florence ‘Floss’ Fioravanti, active in community

March 18, 2019

Florence “Floss” Fioravanti, 66, of Selbyville passed away suddenly yet peacefully Friday, March 15, 2019 at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md. She was born Oct. 17, 1952, in Manayunk, Pa., where she was raised by her late parents, Edward and Florence Smith.

After graduating Roxborough High School, Floss “Flo” worked in customer service as a waitress, restaurant manager and leasing agent for 30 years, while raising her family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She moved to Delaware in 2008, where she was very active in her community and served on their homeowner's board of directors.

She was a person of tremendous determination and strength. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her favorite thing to do was spending time poolside with neighbors and family, perfecting her tan, laughing, and creating priceless moments and memories.  Her laugh was infectious and her smile could light up the room. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Florence was an advocate of organ donation and donated her corneas, to allow another to see the world as beautiful as she did.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Richard Fioravanti; five children: Edward of Delaware, Richard Jr (Kristi) of Florida, Tina Petreshock of Delaware, Bernadette Whitaker (Richard) of Pennsylvania and Antoinette Davies (Dennis) of Pennsylvania, 11 grandchildren: Corporal Derek Lauria, serving in Afghanistan with the U.S. Marine Corps, Elizabeth, Rachelle, Devon, Andrew, Daniel, Richard III, Adrianna, Athena, Giavanna and Jayden; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Becky Cornman of Pennsylvania, and Peggy Sue Lavery of Delaware.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janet F. Smith; and her brother, John L. McCormick.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at St. Matthews By-the-Sea, 1000 Coastal Hwy., Fenwick Island. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Bruce Miller, will begin at 1 p.m.
