January 23, 2019

Forever Fit Foundation has proudly led the way in Delaware’s fitness and personal training industry for more than 26 years, owner Nancy “Nonnie” Hawkins-Rigg said. Now the company offers specialized exercise programs for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

In addition to offering a wide array of specialties including gyrotonic, gyrokinesis, ki-hara resistance stretching and yamuna body rolling, Forever Fit Trainers now specialize in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease through the nationally known Rock Steady Boxing Program and PWR! Moves.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects the ability to walk, talk, balance and move. Through Rock Steady Boxing Delmarva, Forever Fit Foundation gives those living with Parkinson’s hope by offering a non-contact, boxing-inspired, high-intensity fitness routine that has been scientifically proven to dramatically improve their quality of life.

According to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, more than 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease, and more than 60,000 Americans are diagnosed each year.

Recent medical studies, including one at the Cleveland Clinic, focus on intense “forced” exercise and indicate that certain types of exercise can exert a neuroprotective influence and may actually slow the progression of this chronic, incurable disease.

Rock Steady Boxing classes are currently offered at the Forever Fit Dover location with classes being held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Mondays; 5 to 6 p.m., Wednesdays; and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Thursdays

The Rock Steady Program serves participants at all stages of Parkinson’s, from the newly diagnosed to those who have been living with the disease for decades or more. “We would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness about the disease our fighters live with on a daily basis and to reflect on their courageous battle. Rock Steady Boxing is about more than just one class or one program; our mission is to inspire and provide hope and a better quality of life globally for those who are fighting back against Parkinson’s disease,” said Hawkins-Rigg.

Forever Fit’s staff of licensed athletic trainers, physical therapy assistants and personal trainers pursues education and training methods both nationally and internationally, and all are dedicated to providing each client with a safe, effective, unparalleled training program designed specifically for the individual’s fitness goals and needs.

Rock Steady Boxing consultations are coordinated and scheduled on an individual basis. For more information, call 302-698-5201 or go to www.ForeverFitFoundation.com.
