Forney and Vernon set the bar high

January 7, 2022

When my husband and I starting coming to Sussex County in the early ’80s, we always stopped to get The Whale. It gave us just what we needed in the way of local information and news. Soon after retiring here in 1990, we got that same quality information from the Cape Gazette. Not only quality, but dependable and trustworthy news and information.

They say change is the only constant, so the change in leadership for what I think is a marvelous local paper was inevitable.  I trust what I read in Tuesday’s edition of Jan. 4 that the cornerstones of what made the Gazette a local treasure will remain in place. This is to thank both Trish Vernon and Dennis Forney for what they created for the Cape Region, and for always being vigilant in reporting on the dynamic and ever-changing landscape of coastal Sussex County.

While their leadership will be quieted, I trust their voices will not be. I look forward, hopefully, to seeing bylines from each Gazette founder for as many years as possible. It’s been a wonderful 27-year ride.  Thank you and welcome to retirement. I think you will like it!

And good luck to Chris Rausch; the bar has been set pretty high!
