Frank Williams solo exhibit to open Aug. 28

August 15, 2020

Lewes artist Frank Williams will have a one-man exhibition from Friday, Aug. 28 to Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres.

Every Picture Tells a Story will feature more than 15 works done primarily in watercolor and egg tempera, two of the techniques used by Andrew Wyeth, who has greatly influenced Williams’ style.

Williams’ paintings of local scenes and settings each have a unique story to tell.

“You Have to Go Out, But You Don’t Have to Come Back,” egg tempera on gesso panel, reflects on life at the Indian River Life-Saving Station. Williams said the surfmen served primarily in the stormy season of September through April, performing daily drills to prepare for rescues and patrolling the beaches looking for ships in distress. The table in the mess room was always set. One motto of the Life-Saving Service was “You have to go out, but you don’t have to come back.” With the table set, the surfmen knew there was a place waiting for them when they returned from the beach.
