Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park accepting bird seed orders until Oct. 13

Pickup date is Oct. 24; funds support park projects
September 26, 2020

Birds are great at social distancing, so it is no trouble in these COVID times to have them over for dinner and a drink.

Assuming bird lovers are entertaining at the usual rate, the Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park are planning their annual bird seed sale, and Sale Chair Sandee Coyle says orders will be accepted until Tuesday, Oct. 13. Orders will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 24, at Cape Henlopen State Park’s Maintenance Garage.

For years now, the Friends’ annual sale has provided an economical way to stock up on seeds for the winter. Items available, all premium seeds, include various types of sunflower seeds, peanuts, thistle, safflower, white millet, corn, suet, and a selection of wild bird seed mixes. There are more than 20 choices as to variety and size of bag.

Order forms are available at the park office and the Seaside Nature Center, and at friendsofcapehenlopen.org for easy ordering from home. Prices are listed on the form. Any Friends member is eligible for a 10 percent discount. Send the completed form along with a check to: Birdseed Sale, c/o FOCHSP, P.O. Box 132, Nassau, DE 19969.

Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park is a nonprofit organization of volunteers who donate their time to promote one of the crown jewels of Delaware's state parks. They are strongly committed to public education about the park and believe that education leads to appreciation, conservation, and preservation. In addition to their educational activities, Friends volunteers participate in a monthly Trails Day and a variety of other direct activities within the park.

Friends also raise money for specific park projects such as the Bike Barn, the Hawk Watch, and the park playground. For more information about joining or volunteering, visit www.friendsofcapehenlopen.org, email fochsp@gmail.com, or call 302-858-6127.
