Friends of Lewes library to host holiday sale Dec. 7

November 18, 2019

The Friends of the Lewes Public Library will host an old and new holiday sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.

The sale will feature rare and collectible books and movies, new children’s books, holiday cards and other gift items. The sale offers a way to purchase holiday gifts while supporting the Lewes library.

Rare and collectible books and movies make special, memorable gifts. Guests may choose from a wide array of classic literature, biographies, histories, children’s books and even some signed and first editions. All are priced 50 percent below internet prices.

The sale also includes an extensive selection of new children’s books, priced at 25 percent off the original retail price. As a special incentive with a $20 purchase, the library is offering a free children’s book from a special assortment.

Local author Nancy Sakaduski will be on hand to inscribe and sign her national-award-winning book, “The Mermaid in Rehoboth Bay.” In the story, a storm has washed a mermaid named Nibi across land and into a bay, separating her from her ocean home. Terra, a little girl who lives nearby, is afraid of the water, so she can’t go swimming with her friends. The two discover each other, become friends, and find a way to solve their problems together. It’s a story that celebrates the beauty of the sea and tidal areas, and depicts two strong female characters who confront their fears and achieve their goals on their own. Spectacular watercolor illustrations by Marcella Harte bring the story to life and include sea creatures actually found in the waters off the coast.

Shoppers who purchase a Friends membership to give as a gift during this holiday sale will receive a free box of Friends of Lewes Public Library note or holiday cards, a $12 value.

Other items available are holiday ornaments and key chains with the City of Lewes seal, bejeweled bookmarks made by a local artist, tote bags, Lewes ball caps and holiday greeting cards.

Two beautiful handmade quilts pieced by local artists will be featured during this sale.

Admission is free and proceeds benefit the Friends of the Lewes Public Library, a separate nonprofit affiliate of contributing members who support the Lewes Public Library. Proceeds will be used for book and media purchases, library programming, special projects and other library needs. For more information, call 302-645-2733 or go to www.lewes.lib.de.us.
