Fund for Women holds fashion, fun and philanthropy show

May 18, 2019

The Fund for Women in Sussex County held its 9th annual fashion show April 28 at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club.

More than 220 people attended, and 19 new founders joined the Fund for Women. Each new founder makes a five-year commitment of $1,000, or $500 for founders ages 21 to 35, toward the fund’s $3.6 million endowment. This year the fund will give nearly $170,000 to nonprofits that help women and girls throughout the state.

The event showcased fashions from 10 women-owned boutiques, including Blooming Boutique and Candlelight Bridal in Millsboro; Coral Cove, Hula Sue, Willow Marie, Funky Lady, Vernon Powell, and Jane & Georgie in Rehoboth Beach; and Coolspring Cottage and Twila Farrell in Lewes. Hair and makeup for the models was graciously donated by the Delaware Institute of Learning’s School of Cosmetology in Dagsboro.

Models were Libby Adams, Gina Bergin, Gerri Clapp, Kelly Collier, Keda Dorisca, Gigi Gaul, Bethany Hall-Long, Susan Millard, Dawn Mosley, Marilyn Nugent, Carol Revak, Laura Rimmer, Curtis Slater, Genevieve Slater, Laura Slater, Jacqueline Sterbach, Vicki Stottlemyer and Sue Toccafondi.

New founders are Eleanor Allen, Ashley Bean, Jean Brex, Anna Collier, Judy Collier, Marybeth Conaway, Maribeth Dockety, Joan Flaherty, Lis Golumbic, Amber Hill, Carolyn Lane, Melek Karacan, Kyle Kokjohn, Roberta Monkmon, Alice Morrison, Patti Prettyman, Chris Shelton, Kellan Slater and Kathy Sperl-Bell.

The Fund for Women is an endowment of the Delaware Community Foundation. Its mission is that all women and girls are empowered to achieve their potential.

The 2020 show will highlight fashions from as far back as the 1910s to the modern era. For more information or to join the email list, send a request to Kelly Sheridan, Sussex County development chair, at ksheridan@delcf.org.
