Rehoboth Beach Main Street announced Feb. 15 it is looking to help raise $30,000 in funds for downtown merchants who want to install barriers allowing the creation of sidewalk dining and retail space in 2021.

Last year, the city paid for the installation of barriers across commercial-district parking spaces to create safe pedestrian space while allowing for outdoor dining and retail. With the continuing pandemic, the city is allowing sidewalk dining again this summer. However, it is requiring businesses to cover the cost of the barriers.

RBMS is raising money to defray those costs for its member businesses. The fundraising goal of $30,000 is expected to cover roughly half the cost. RBMS has opened a donation page on Facebook and has submitted two grant requests, with more being prepared.

RBMS is a not-for-profit business association and has nearly 100 member businesses in the city. RBMS works to promote those members and Rehoboth Beach as a highly desirable and safe place to visit.
