Funland has been a staple on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk for more than six decades. It opened for its 64th season May 9.
Allen and Don Fasnacht, with their wives Jean and Dee, purchased the amusement park from the Dentino family, which had operated Rehoboth Beach Sports Center in the city for many years. The Fasnachts moved forward with the sale despite the infamous Storm of 1962 heavily damaging the park just days before settlement.
Over the years, the family has continued to expand the park with new rides and games. Most notably, Funland recently announced this will be the final year for the popular haunted house after 47 years. After the season, work will begin to reimagine the ride, which is set to open in 2028.
Allen Fasnacht, probably the most visible of the first generation, died in March 2025. But the legacy lives on with the generations of Fasnachts who continue to run the park every summer.
