Future stars shine at Champions Hockey Camp

More than 50 future field hockey stars attended the Champions Hockey Camp June 24-27 at Cape High’s Champions Stadium. DAN COOK PHOTOS

More than 50 campers from grades one to eight were given instruction by Cape Henlopen coach Kate Austin and her players from the DIAA State Championship team at the Champions Field Hockey Camp June 24-27.

Elementary-age campers played lead-up games and learned the basic skills needed to play field hockey. The older group of campers got their basic skills fine-tuned, and they worked on advanced skills to improve their game. Skills drills, games and daily competitions were held during the four-day event. Special events of crazy hair day and red, white and blue day were featured.

Instructors at the camp included Cape All-State player Cami Smith along with her teammates Lola Messick, Anna Stancofski, Abby Kane, Emily Monigle, Reagan Ciabattoni, Noelle Sabbagh and LeeLee Wilson.
