The 5th Annual Gabby Gobble 5K and Kiddie Fun Run is set for Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 22, at Irish Eyes in Lewes. The fun run begins at 9 a.m. with the 5K race beginning at 9:30. Race proceeds go to the Get Well Gabby Foundation.

Last year, the race welcomed more than 1,300 participants and their families. Parking is available at Irish Eyes and behind the Dairy Queen at the end of Savannah Road.

To register or donate, go to www.getwellgabby.org. Get Well Gabby is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization.

The Get Well Gabby Foundation was formed in February 2012 in memory of Gabriella Vogel, who passed away from Diffuse Intra Pontine Glioma in 2011. Her parents, John and Carolynn Vogel, wanted to continue to help other children with cancer to get well in their daughter’s memory. The foundation is focused on providing funding to local children and their families currently fighting a childhood cancer diagnosis, supporting children’s hospitals nationwide through its new book program, and providing Believe Bags with comfort items to children upon a childhood cancer diagnosis.

The foundation has also supported Nemours A.I. du Pont Children’s Hospital with the construction of a new dedicated oncology playroom, and funding for the first electronic medical record for childhood cancer that is being used for research and the care of children across the county. Gabby’s family resides in the Bethany Beach area.
