Gallo Gives Foundation awards community donations

As part of its continual effort to make a difference in the community in which its associates live and serve, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty’s Gallo Gives Foundation awarded its quarterly donations to: First Tee Delaware, Autism Delaware, Sussex Strong Foundation, Community Resource Center, Cape Community Fund, Sussex Housing Group, and Beebe Medical Foundation. In all, $11,500 was donated in this round of giving.

Beebe Medical Foundation received $2,500 for its Beebe Goes Purple initiative that supports opioid awareness, education, prevention and recovery in Sussex County. An Oct. 6 event at the Starboard on was held to raise funds for the cause. Lee Ann Wilkinson of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty was one of the guest bartenders, and she raised over $33,000. For more, go to beebehealthcare.org/gopurple.

First Tee Delaware was awarded $2,000. The organization enables children to build strength of character that will empower them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with life skills curriculum, First Tee creates learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence and resilience that children carry into everything they do. Autism Delaware received $2,000. Its vision is for all people with autism to have opportunities to learn, grow and live full lives as included and valued members of the community. The organization continues to expand creative and innovative services, resources and support to individuals and families, while using evidence-based methods to become a model for others. The Sussex Strong foundation received $2,000. Over 20 years ago, a simple idea shared among a few friends – to raise money to buy gifts for those in need during the holiday season – became the Sussex County Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation. Formally established in 2008, the foundation has raised and distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars through various fundraising and charitable efforts and has helped thousands of families throughout the county by providing them with access to critical services. The Community Resource Center in Rehoboth Beach was awarded $1,000. CRC is a volunteer-driven organization created in 2011 to assist low-income individuals and families in times of need. It offers a centralized location where people from the local community can come when facing a crisis. The organization is staffed with 70 highly trained volunteers. The Cape Community Fund received $1,000. CCF recognizes that Southern Delaware is a growing and changing landscape; however, one community quality that remains constant is the willingness of neighbors to help neighbors. Whether an accident, illness, fire or other unexpected catastrophe has caused a setback, this community rises to the challenge time and time again. Sussex Housing Group received $1,000. SHG is a partnership of organizations include representation from the public and private sector, nonprofits and other community-based organizations and communities. SHG works collaboratively on housing and community development issues as they affect communities in Sussex County. Its mission is to bring together multiple organizations and individuals as an effective coalition that fosters safe, fair and affordable housing and builds a community based on the power of people and place.
