Gallo Gives presents quarterly community donations

September 24, 2021

As part of its continual effort to make a difference in the communities where its members live and serve, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty’s Gallo Gives Foundation awarded its 2021 second-quarter donations to the Boardwalk Buddy Walk Fund, Camp Arrowhead, Beebe Medical Foundation, Horsey Family Youth Foundation, Radio Rehoboth and Delaware Center for the Inland Bays. The total amount donated for this quarter was $9,500.

The Boardwalk Buddy Walk Fund received $2,000. It was established to create a community where people with Down Syndrome or any cognitive disorder can live, learn, work and play. Each year, supporters walk the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk to raise awareness of the special qualities of individuals with Down Syndrome and the need to include them in the communities. To help with the annual walk or learn more, go to ds-stride.org/boardwalkbuddywalk.

Camp Arrowhead was awarded $2,000 for assistance in constructing a new community building. The property is a unique camp, educational and retreat center comprising diverse and faithful people that provides a safe natural environment to learn about self, community, nature and God. Its vision is to be a sacred place for building community, nurturing all people and spreading love in the world. The new building will support all of this and create a safe space for community members to meet. To learn more about Camp Arrowhead’s campaign, go to camparrowhead.net.

Beebe Medical Foundation received a $1,500 donation for the Lisa Henderson Scholarship Fund. Henderson recently lost her battle with cancer. She was an oncology nurse at Tunnell Cancer Center in Rehoboth Beach where she became the nursing manager for oncology. Henderson loved being a nurse more than anything and had spent a large part of her life caring for and nurturing others. To honor Henderson, a nursing scholarship has been established at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. For those wishing to honor Henderson’s legacy in nursing, donations can be sent to Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.

The Horsey Family Youth Foundation received $1,500 to benefit the youth of Sussex County. Funds donated will benefit children in need and offer after-school educational and athletic activities to keep them engaged in safe activities. The family is an advocate to giving back to the community. For more details on the Horsey Family and its foundation, go to horseyfamilyyouthfoundation.org.

Radio Rehoboth was awarded $1,500. As a nonprofit, non-commercial community radio station, it provides programming that can’t be heard anywhere else in the state. The station plays just about anything on a musical scale. It also offers a variety of news and public affairs programs that provide balance and all points of view. Gallo Gives donated $1,000 to the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, a nonprofit organization and National Estuary Program dedicated to preserving, protecting and restoring Delaware’s Inland Bays, which are Rehoboth Bay, Indian River Bay and Little Assawoman Bay.
