Garrett Michael King, devoted to friends and family

February 20, 2020

Garrett M. King, 36, of Rehoboth Beach passed away suddenly Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020. He was born April 12, 1983, in Anniston, Ala., son of Daniel B. and Beth J. King.

At age 1, Garrett moved to Delaware and was raised in Milford, Middletown and then moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1996. He graduated with honors from Cape Henlopen High School in 2001. His intellectual curiosity and voracious reading earned him first place in the Delaware Geography Bee.

An avid athlete, Garrett was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol Junior Lifeguards and served as a senior lifeguard for the Delaware State Parks Association, winning the Delaware Inter-parks Olympics in 2001. He attended Delaware Technical Community College and earned his real estate license in 2010. Garrett worked tirelessly for over a decade as a realtor and integral part of The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty in Lewes, where he was loved both by his clients and coworkers, many of whom he helped to train with his uncommon natural sense of local real estate market trends.

Garrett's data analysis and business acumen made him an irreplaceable member of the team. A dedicated Eagles fan, Garrett also enjoyed hiking, camping, swimming, and watching thought-provoking movies.  He was a loving and devoted father, son, brother, grandson and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Garrett is survived by his son, Roman Alexander King, and Roman's mother, Helena Pappagianis of Lewes;  his brother, Matthew King of St. Louis, Mo.; his sisters: Kathryn King (Matt McHugh) of Tampa, Fla., and Margaret King of Arlington, Va.;  his grandmother, Betty Lou Poloway of Palm Desert, Calif.; his soulmate and best friend, Billie Wilkinson; and many close family and friends.

A casual memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m., at his family home, 206 Hickman St., Rehoboth Beach, for family and friends.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Garrett's memory to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, Sussex County Chapter, where Garrett adopted his beloved dog, Copper, at 22918 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947, or www.bvspca.org.
