Garth C. Troescher Jr., proud Marine Corps vet

Garth C. Troescher Jr., 35, of Frankford passed away suddenly Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018.

Garth was born Aug. 17, 1982, in Fresno, Calif. An executive officer of Calvert High School's ROTC, Garth graduated and went straight into the U.S. Marine Corps like his grandfather before him. He successfully graduated boot camp a few days after his 18th birthday. A proud veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom fighting in Fallujah, he and his fellow Marines ensured during their active duty that No Man Was Left Behind.

His decorations include: The Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, The Navy Unit Commendation Award, The Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, The Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, The Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and The Rifle Marksman Badge.

Upon his honorable discharge from the USMC, Garth achieved his bio-engineering degree. He then started his certified veteran-owned and -operated construction company, Garth LLC, in 2012. He was a member of VFW Post 7234, American Legion Post 24, and an exclusive member of Azek Building Products’ National Trim Council. He received numerous awards and accolades within his community.

Garth enjoyed time spent with his family, hunting, and will forever be remembered for cracking his token one-liners and sharing his undeniable love for football by coaching Pop Warner. HTTR! He will be remembered for his devotion to wife and soulmate, Sheri (Bitler) Troescher, and his abundant love for his children, Christopher Schopfer, Skylar Troescher, Macklin Risch, Garth "Tripp" Troescher III and Thomas Troescher. Garth also considered Kelan Brosnahan a sixth child. He is survived by his mother Janet Cassavaugh and her husband Thomas; his father Garth Troescher Sr. and his wife Madeline; his mother-in-law Lynn Ceritano and her husband Peter Hesson.

Garth is also survived by his 10 siblings: Dr. Theresa Snell and her husband Willie, Chase Troescher and his wife Austen, Mitchel Troescher, Angela Phillips and her husband Larry, Joshua Cassavaugh and his wife Illene, Jessica Watkins and her husband Freddy, Jeffery Watkins and his wife Crystal, Ashley Watkins, Michael Bitler and Joe Dario. Additionally, he is survived by his nephew Alan and niece/goddaughter Brynna. Garth was blessed by an extended family that includes numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life and visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16, at Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m., and the interment will be held in the adjoining cemetery.
