Gary Michael Arrell passed away peacefully Saturday, May 9, 2026.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carolyn; his sons, David Arrell (Jennifer) and Daniel Arrell; his daughter, Charlotte Buoni (Michael); and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Arrell (Peggy), and several nieces and nephews. Gary was born in Minneapolis, Minn., June 9, 1939, to Charles and Marion Arrell. He is predeceased by his parents; his brother, Kenny Arrell and his wife Sharon; and his sister, Geri and her husband Ed Nygaard.
Gary was a proud graduate of the University of Minnesota (Go Gophers!). Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served as an LTJG in communications aboard the SS Kearsarge. Following the Navy, he worked for over three decades for Reynolds Metals Co. After retiring to Sussex County, he worked for 17 years for Eddie Bauer. After his second retirement, he volunteered at New Life Thrift Shop. He was very active in volunteer work through Bethel United Methodist Church.
Gary was very much a devoted family man, attending ball games, piano recitals, and parades, always supporting his children and grandchildren. Gary will be remembered for his smile, his love of music, and the way he treated other people. It is no surprise that he chose to donate his body to science for research.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. 4th St., Lewes, DE, or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
