Gas leak in Hotel Dewey

Hotel evacuated while firefighters disperse gas
July 11, 2018

Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company responded to a possible gas leak at the Dewey Beach Police Department about 5:40 p.m., July 10.

After they arrived, firefighters detected a strong gas odor in the area, but did not find the source of the leak at the police department. Rehoboth firefighters determined the source to be at the Hotel Dewey on Coastal Highway. Firefighters and Dewey Beach Police evacuated the hotel, and firefighters set up a water line to disperse the gas. They remained on scene for over an hour, spraying water on the tank until it was empty.
