Genevieve Rettig, family matriarch

Genevieve Rettig, 88, of Millville, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at her daughter's home. She was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of Robert and Genevieve Allison.

Mrs. Rettig worked at the Stockley Center in Georgetown for several years, as well as at various daycares in Ocean View. The role she treasured most, however, was that of homemaker. A true matriarch, she relished caring for children. Mrs. Rettig enjoyed sewing, embroidery and cooking for those she held dear. Above all, her most treasured moments were those spent with her wonderful family and friends. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rettig was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold Rettig; her son Craig Rettig; her brother Alfonze Krygier; and her sister Alice Denny. She is survived by her daughters: Katherine Castro and her husband Mario of Millville, and Claire Columna and her husband Arthur of Millville; her son, Walter Rettig of West Ocean City, Md.; her 11 grandchildren; and her 11 great-grandchildren.

All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, Ocean View.
