George Earl Smith Jr., lifelong gardener

George Earl Smith Jr., 73, of Georgetown, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes. He was born in Wilmington, Sept. 8, 1945, son of the late George Earl Smith Sr. and Eleanor (Greenfield) Smith.

Mr. Smith made his lifelong career as a gardener at AI DuPont. He enjoyed working outside, and keeping his plants and garden looking their best.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Smith in 1998; and his grandson Dustin Walls in 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Shoppell and her husband Charles of Florence, S.C.; four grandchildren: Brett Walls, Chuck Shoppell, Chelsey Williams and Jessica Revell; and two brothers: Gary Smith and his wife Linda of New Castle, and Richard Smith of New York City, N.Y.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20, at noon, at Edgewood Memorial Park, 325 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, Pa.
