George A. LeCates Sr., retired truck driver

Mr. George A. LeCates Sr., 80, of Laurel passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2018.

Mr. LeCates was born in Laurel Jan. 25, 1938, to the late Granville W. and Mary Louise Long LeCates. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Norma Lee LeCates April 4, 2018, four brothers, Norval LeCates, John LeCates, Donald Lecates and Granville LeCates Jr.; two sisters, Myrtle Rogers and Virginia Hudson; a son-in-law, Albert Farley; and Austin, a great-great-grandchild

He was a truck driver for Perdue Farms for 24 years before his retirement. He was also a farmer of grain and chickens. He enjoyed rabbit and coon hunting, horseback riding, and fishing. George was a family man who was devoted to his late wife, Norma; he loved his children and grandchildren. He always made you laugh and had funny comments, was outspoken, and knew how to hold his ground.

He is survived by five children, Diana Toomey of Georgetown, James LeCates and his companion Teresa of Laurel, George LeCates Jr. and his companion Joyce of Laurel, Ruth Boyer and her husband Bob of Laurel, and Beverly Nichols and her husband James of Delmar; three sisters, Ilene Baker of Georgetown, Cathy Torbert orf Milford and Yvonne Cooper of Laurel. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon for viewing and visitation. Burial will follow in Carey's Cemetery, Millsboro.
