Vietnam vet Bill Cook salutes the flag. The traditional Sussex County Memorial Day service was held May 24 on the Circle in Georgetown. The event was sponsored by the Georgetown Kiwanis Club and the Korean War Veterans Association.
The master of ceremonies was Sen. Brian Pettyjohn, R-Georgetown. The invocation and benediction was offered by the venerable archdeacon Peter Cornell of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown.
The keynote speech was delivered by retired Lt. Col. John Fisher of the U.S. Army. Fisher is a University of Delaware graduate from Seaford who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Mali. Fisher, a pilot, he was also commandant of the Delaware OCS Academy.

Memorial wreathes were placed by local veterans’ groups and service organizations in tribute to those who died in the World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the more recent conflicts to protect our freedoms. Assisting were members of Boy Scout Troop 95.
