March 31, 2020

A Georgetown man faces burglary charges March 29 after police say he stole items from several cars.

Georgetown police patrolling in the early morning hours went to the area of Walter Street for a report of a theft from a vehicle when they learned someone entered a car and took money, said Detective Joey Melvin of the Georgetown Police Department. Several hours later, he said, officers responded to the 400 block of Mary Street for reports of a theft in progress. Officers were given a description of a man who was seen entering two vehicles, and following a search, Melvin said, police found the man hiding behind a residence.

Anthony Ireland, 40, of Georgetown, was taken into custody without incident and charged with three counts third-degree burglary, and one count theft under $1,500. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released. Ireland was issued a no-contact order with the Town of Georgetown.

Any residents who believe they may also be a victim are encouraged to contact the Georgetown Police Department at 302-856-6613.
