GFWC Delaware State Federation of Women’s Clubs holds convention

The 122nd annual convention of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Delaware State Federation of Women’s Clubs was held May 15-17,  at the Atlantic Sands Hotel in Rehoboth Beach.  The convention was presided over by GFWC DSFWC President Susan Carla Pyle of the Women’s Club of Odessa Inc.  Women from across the state were welcomed by Rehoboth Mayor Paul Kuhns.

Workshops and awards were presented; clubs received recognition for projects and programs completed in 2018.  Amy Davies and Rachel Lipke from Best Buddies International spoke at the opening luncheon as did Emma Kelly, from Indian River High School, the HOBY Ambassador.  Cathryn Shahan, from Symrna High School, was the $1,000 scholarship recipient. GFWC Second Vice President Suellen Brazil gave the keynote address at the Thursday evening banquet.  Clubwomen who passed away in 2018 were remembered at a memorial breakfast.

Sandra Roberts of the Village Improvement Association was nominated for the office of GFWC Middle Atlantic Region president.  Rita Hollada of the Selbyville Community Club was elected president-elect for GFWC DSFWC for the 2020-22 term.

Carolyn Forbes was the Delaware recipient of the GFWC Jennie Award – the only award that recognizes individual members for personal excellence.  She will now compete at the GFWC Middle Atlantic Region level.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
