March 17, 2022

An 11-year-old girl was critically injured March 14 after she was struck by a vehicle along Isaacs Road near Milton.

The crash happened about 4 p.m. when the girl was at a mailbox on the northbound shoulder of the 12000 block of Isaacs Road and she darted across the roadway toward a driveway, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police. At the same time, a woman, 66, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse southbound on Isaacs Road, and she was unable to avoid the girl, striking her with the left front fender, Pepper said. The girl was airlifted to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Nemours/A.I duPont Hospital for Children where she remains in critical but stable condition, Pepper said.

The driver of the Traverse was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released. Isaacs Road was closed for about two hours while the investigation was completed.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Det. Argo with DSP Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 302-703-3264.
