Girl Scouts donate to equine-assisted therapy and learning center

June 23, 2019

At the beginning of each cookie sales season, the girls in Girl Scout Troop 1150 discuss philanthropy and select a local cause they want to support with a percentage of the money they earn.

This year, all the girls wanted to support both animals and the military, so troop members decided to donate to Courageous Hearts Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning Center LLC in Lincoln.

Courageous Hearts staff adhere to the high EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth And Learning Association) standard of military service providers with a trained, experienced and qualified team that understands the unique needs of military members and their families. Addressing stress, depression, addictions, loss and more, a trained mental health team works with participants to read and respond to non-verbal cues the horses provide to assist participants with achieving life-changing insights.

The girls in Girl Scout Troop 1150 of Lewes proudly presented a donation to Rosemary Baughman of Courageous Hearts June 1.

Baughman and her team invited the girls to meet the horses and experience a bit of what they do at the facility. Working with the horses gave the girls a sense of accomplishment and pride.
