It is that time of the year in Rehoboth Beach when the political hacks surface. We see that in Mr. Glass and Save Our City (a political action group registered in Delaware) this year. He is surfacing issues that were addressed in 2015 – mini-hotels, for example. In fact, Mr. Glass himself rents his property out, so why is he against something that benefits him?
Mr. Glass also wants to impose new taxes on hotels and local businesses. Small businesses already struggle financially and do not need additional taxes. He also wants a lottery system to limit rental licenses - ideas conceived without public input and without thorough research into the impact of these types of policies.
I am further concerned about the relationship between Mr. Glass and Save Our City, the organization that supported the Cooper administration that was ousted in last year's election. Save Our City, which has now endorsed Mr. Glass, sent an email providing incorrect information, saying that our city government committed to paying a million dollars to implement a canal-access project.
This is not accurate.
The current commissioners did vote to spend a small sum for design and permits for the canal-access project - they did not commit our municipal government to funding the entire canal-access project. This project is pursing grants and private investments.
So, Mr. Glass and Save Our City appear more driven with winning rather than the economic vitality and integrity of our small town. Rehoboth Beach needs positive commissioners who stand by their convictions and who will focus on the future – not those who support the spread of misinformation and resurface issues from the past. Please vote on Aug. 11 for two commissioner seats – Pat Coluzzi and Dick Byrne – two positive visionaries.
