Go Fund Me seeks support for 104-year-old Bethany woman

November 8, 2020

To help his grandmother continue to live at her home in Bethany Beach, Phillip Fowler has started a GoFundMe campaign.

She is nearly out of financial means to pay for the her in-home nursing care, which her insurance does not cover. If she loses that care, she will lose her home of over 60 years and will have to be moved to a skilled nursing facility an hour away from her home in Delaware.

This campaign's goal is to raise $16,000 to provide her with the necessary care while allowing her to continue to live at home.

In his GoFundMe description, Fowler said, “This wonderful woman has been the cornerstone of our family and has remained as such into her 104th year of touching people's lives. All of her life, she has opened her home and her heart to family, friends and even strangers. She assisted with reading to young children in her local church until she was 93 yrs. old. This generous lady is now in the need of help from the generosity of those that love her and those who can assist in helping.

“It is hard to plan to live to be 100 so you can imagine the difficulty of planning to live to 104 and beyond. Unfortunately, this is now the case for my grandmother as she has nearly run out of money to support her in-home nursing care which insurance does not cover. If we are unable to raise the $16,000 per month for her care, she will lose her home of over 60 years and she will have to be moved to a skilled nursing facility an hour away from her home in Delaware.

“By living to 104 years old, my grandmother has survived many of life's hurdles. She is a cancer survivor and is both legally blind and deaf. She has lost her parents, all of her siblings, her husband and 3 of her 4 wonderful children. She has been immensely resilient through her years and a shining example of humanity. She has passed those values to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren! Two of her three sons were military veterans, who served with honor, and always made her proud, as have her other children.

“Thank you for anything that you can contribute towards keeping my grandmother in her home and in the care of the wonderful nurses that have grown to love her as much as everyone else that has been touched by her throughout the years.”
