July 28, 2021

A Greenwood man faces charges after police say he assaulted a woman July 27, leaving her with serious injuries.

Dennis B. Buckley, 43, argued with a woman, 42, in the 16000 block of Adams Road in Bridgeville at 5:52 a.m. when the argument turned physical, said Cpl. Amina Ali of the Delaware State Police. Buckley struck the woman in the upper body multiple times with a firearm, causing serious physical injuries, she said. The woman was treated at a local urgent care center for her injuries. At the time, Ali said, warrants were released for Buckley’s arrest.

Later the same day at 2:14 p.m., Ali said, police stopped Buckley for a traffic stop on Oak Road and Haven Road in Bridgeville. When police identified Buckley, she said, they took him into custody without incident, and transported him to Delaware State Police Troop 4 where he was charged with felony second-degree assault, driving under the influence, possession of a firearm during a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, criminal contempt of a domestic violence protective order, theft under $1,500, and failure to have insurance identification in possession.

Buckley was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $102,000 cash bond.
