Hair of the dog that bit you? Hangover humor on New Year’s Day morning. It’s not exactly the crowd that shows up at 8:30 a.m. to run a 10K. And many of those runners lined up again at 10 a.m. to throw a 5K race on the pile of relentless fitness.

The Hair of the Dog 10K and 5K races on New Year’s Day in downtown Bethany Beach always attract a family crowd. Many bring the family dog – there is a top 3 category in the 5K for runners who run the distance with their leashed dog.

Nick Cruz, 23, was in control and the overall winner in the 10K in a fast time of 34:08.

Charlie Schindler, 29, placed second in 35:29, followed by Tim Sick in 39:36, Mike Sewell in 40:05 and Steve Venett in 41:51.
