Hanwell offers great expectations for Cape district

May 6, 2021

Parents, students and alumni of the Cape Henlopen School District should expect graduating students to emerge as young adults who know how to think critically, are open and listen to opinions and thoughts of others, and behave as informed, considerate and concerned citizens. These young people should understand their communities and the world are made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds with varying experiences who should be accorded the same opportunities and respect all citizens expect to enjoy. This understanding leads to upholding the values of equal rights for all. The extent to which students learn these qualities is directly related to the Cape Henlopen schools and the decisions board members make regarding curricula, extracurricular programs, and funding.

Janis Hanwell meets the expectations every parent should have for a school board member. She is an experienced educator who understands the true purpose of education which is to develop informed citizens who will function productively in society. Furthermore, she has demonstrated over time the capacity to solve problems by listening to all voices, including students, to reach a fair solution consistent with the mission of the Cape Henlopen School District.  Finally, Ms. Hanwell is an educator who understands the world is changing not only in terms of demographics but also in terms of the new ways to teach diverse students with a variety of needs while integrating the sensible input from students, parents, alumni, and the district’s other stakeholders. Janis Hanwell builds on the strengths of students, teachers, and district stakeholders.

Vote in the Cape Henlopen school board election to make sure great expectations for the Cape Henlopen School District are achieved on May 11, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes; Mariner Middle School, Milton; and Rehoboth Elementary School, Rehoboth.
