A Harbeson man died Sept. 1, following a motorcycle crash on Route 1 near Lewes.

The crash happened about  6 p.m. as a Kia Sorento driven by a Pennsylvania woman, 77, was traveling northbound on Route 1 and entered the turn lane at Bay Crossing Boulevard. At the same time, police said a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Paul Lawson, 48, was traveling southbound on Route 1 in the far-left lane, approaching Bay Crossing Boulevard.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that the Kia made a U-turn and pulled into the path of the motorcycle. As a result, police said the motorcycle struck the passenger’s side of the Kia, ejecting the operator.

Lawson was taken to an area hospital where he died. The Kia driver and two passengers were not injured.

The roadway was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
