Harley E. ‘Buffy’ White, HVAC technician

September 8, 2021

Harley E. “Buffy” White of Redden passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021.

Buffy, as he was lovingly known, was born a Beebe baby in Lewes to loving parents, Wayne A. and Leona P. (Morgan) White.

After his decision to leave school when he was 16, Buffy worked in the HVAC industry for numerous years until his health caused him to no longer be able to perform the job he loved.  Buffy was a dependable and meticulous employee, always taking the time to be sure the job was done right and the customer was satisfied.  Over the years he worked for several HVAC contractors, including Prettyman Heating and Air, Sherman Heating and Air, and most recently, Hellens Heating and Air.

He loved spending time on the weekends riding along with his dad and dear friend George Willey, going to car shows, Wilson’s Auction, local dirt race tracks and yard sales.  Buffy especially loved going to the slots in Harrington and Dover.  If you were a friend of his, you surely knew it because he loved spending time with his friends and family, and it showed. He was a simple man who enjoyed a simple and quiet life.

He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Leona “Penny” White; brother, Wayne M. White Sr. and wife Angie; sister Patty Bodenweiser and husband Eric; nieces and nephews, Wayne M. White Jr. (Kurri Hartzell), Tyler White and wife Chelsea, Desi White (Zack Millman), and Dylan White (Carlie Winand); one great-nephew, Jase White; two great-nieces, Delaney White and Mia Millman; and a daughter, Tiffany Griffith; as well as extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the live-in caregivers, Sandy Rager and Ash Whitman, for the exceptional care given to him during his extended illness. They treated him with unwavering kindness and love, and cared for him as if he were their very own brother. They were Heaven sent when Sandy answered a Facebook post for the position, and no one could have provided care for him as they did. Our family will be forever grateful to them for their sacrifices made many times where they had to change their plans because of a hiccup in scheduling with agencies we used. They never questioned or became frustrated, just stepped up to the plate and did what was needed.

Charlotte, who works for Christiana Care, was a long-term aide for Buffy who always went above and beyond for him, and again treating him as if he were her own family, and we are forever grateful for her service and her love of her job. We want to thank Christiana Care and Delaware Hospice for their continued support and service in their care of Buffy and the unwavering support for the family that was given during Buffy’s illness.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Sept. 13, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton.  A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11 a.m.  Burial will immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Millsboro.

Flowers are accepted, or contributions are welcome in Buffy’s memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, or to Easterseals Delaware and Maryland Eastern Shore, Adult Day Services, 22317 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947.
