Harriet W. Baker, Grace UM Church member

Harriet W. Baker, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.  She was one of seven daughters of Harry E. and Louise C. (Hudson) Williams.   Harriet was a lifelong resident of Millsboro.  She graduated from Millsboro High School in 1943, and attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va.   

In 1945, she married Vernon D. Baker.  They made their home in Millsboro, where they raised three children.  Harriet loved traveling; she and Vernon took many trips over the years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law:  Blanche Outten, Nina Timmons, Gladys Godwin (Norris), Louise Nelson (Nels), Gloria Davis (Charles) and Ralph Willey.  She is survived by her husband, Vernon; two sons: Vernon “Chip) Jr., and his wife Judy, and David W. Baker; a daughter Teresa B. Ricker and her husband Bob; and her sister Pat Willey.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Lori Hudson, Danna Sammons, Jacob Ricker, Caleb Ricker, Amy Wingate, Mark Bahn, Justin Dempsey and Robby Rogers.  There are seven great-grandchildren: Shannon Pusey, Samantha Hudson, Tyler Sammons, Addison Ricker, Grace Ricker, Katie Wingate and Levi Bahn; and one great-great-grandchild: Beau Galbraith.  Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, extended family and many, many friends.

Services will be held at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, with the Rev. Karin Tunnell officiating.  The funeral service will be Monday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m., with visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Grace United Methodist Church, where Harriet has been a member since 1935.
