Harry Edgar Spencer Jr., Delmarva Power retiree

October 16, 2018

Harry Edgar Spencer Jr., 98, of Lewes passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at Harbor Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes.  He was born Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1920, in Middletown, son of the late Harry E. Spencer Sr. and Sophie (Anold) Spencer.

Mr. Spencer, who was born at Liston’s Range Rear Lighthouse and grew up at Liston’s Range Front Lighthouse, was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving honorably during World War II. He made his career as a special applications engineer for Delmarva Power. He was an active member of the Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation for more than 15 years. Mr. Spencer enjoyed woodworking, particularly bird carving. More than anything, however, Mr. Spencer cherished time spent with those he held dear. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, and friend who will be genuinely missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Spencer. He is survived by his sons: Larry Spencer (wife Colette) and Steve Spencer (wife Debora); and his grandchildren: Alan Spencer, Matthew Spencer, Jacqueline Spencer and Stephanie Spencer.

Friends are invited to visit with the family Thursday, Oct. 18,  between 10 and 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.  Interment will take place following the visitation at 2 p.m., at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Spencer's memory to the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation, PO Box 708, Lewes, DE 19958.
