Harry S. Perakis, former restaurateur

Harry S. Perakis, 91, of Lewes passed away Friday, May 17, 2019, at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.

Harry was born in Eddystone, Pa., the son of the late George Nicholas and Catherine (Demotakis) Perakis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during World War II on the Underwater Demolition Team. Following the war, Harry received a full football scholarship to the University of Oklahoma, where he received his bachelor’s degree.

Harry was a restaurateur. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Prospect Lodge 578, a member of the Ben Franklin Consistory and a member of the Lulu Temple Chapter Council and Commandry. He was also a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Rehoboth Beach. Harry had his pilot’s license and enjoyed gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, George Perakis; and a brother, Joseph Perakis.
 
He is survived by his wife Dorothy J. (Robinson) Leounes; one son, Marc Perakis; one daughter, Elaine Perakis; three brothers, Socrates Perakis and his wife Rhea, Nicholas Perakis and his wife Andrea, and Alex Perakis and his wife Jenny; three grandsons, Nicholas Perakis, Sammy Perakis and Charlie Perakis; and a great-granddaughter, Lincoln Perakis.
