Developmental screening Introductory session set June 3

Sussex County Health Coalition will host Introduction to ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE-2 from 12 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, via Zoom. This session is appropriate for potential volunteers and anyone concerned about a child’s development and wondering what to do about it. Participants will learn about the importance of developmental screening, what screening entails, and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire process. They also will learn how to volunteer to assist parents at an event where the screening is being implemented.

The Ages and Stages Developmental Screening: 3 and Ages and Stages Social and Emotional: 2 are parent-completed screenings that help determine if a child is meeting developmental milestones. Screenings are available through childcare centers, school districts and community events. The Zoom link will be provided via email to those who register.

Morning meditation offers connection

The Community Coherence Project created by Dr. Krista Griffin is a way to share 20-30 minutes of connection and meditation as a community, at 7:30 a.m. each day via Zoom teleconferencing system. Support groups for healthcare workers ongoing

Delaware Psychological Services is offering free online confidential support groups for healthcare workers dealing with COVID-19 issues. The groups are offered at 11 a.m., Tuesdays and 7 p.m., Thursdays.

Free mindfulness series offered online

Dimitra Yoga will offer a free mindfulness-based stress reduction program with weekly sessions from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., online via Zoom. It is a clinically proven, meditation-based program for stress management, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, cancer and other health issues. The focus is on the present moment in order to permanently change the way one handles stress. During the sessions, Dimitra Kotanides will teach participants how to replace stress-promoting habits with mindful ones, a skill that will last a lifetime. Classes are open to members and nonmembers. Easterseals offers Lifespan Respite grant funding 

Caregiver burnout can put one’s physical and mental health at risk. Respite allows caregivers the time to relax, clear their mind, and find some peace in their busy life. Through Easterseals respite programs, partially funded by the Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities, caregivers could qualify for grant funding to pay for care of their loved ones while they get a break.
