Helen Emma ‘Jean’ Short, devoted to family

Helen Emma “Jean” Short, 90, of Bridgeville passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021.  She was born Feb. 21, 1930, daughter of the late Emery and Fannie (Jones) Willey.

Jean was born, raised and resided in Bridgeville for all of her 90 years.  She enjoyed attending Crossroad Community Church with her friend and driver, Doris Griffin.  Jean devoted her life to her family, and MomMom Jean was delighted to spoil each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at every opportunity.  She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her sisters:  Geneva Wheatley and Margaret Shockley.  Robert, Jean’s beloved husband of 73 years, passed away Sept. 24, 2020.  Mom’s heart was broken, and the family takes comfort in knowing they are together and happy again.

Jean is survived by her children:  Beverly (Randy), Gail (John), Robin (Carol) and Kim (Brenda); her grandchildren: Jeannie, Holly, Tracy, Frank, Shane, Blaine, Kim and Troy; her 15 great-grandchildren; her five great-great-grandchildren; her nephew, John Shockley; and her cousin, Bonnie Smith.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, Bridgeville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Jean’s memory to Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE  19947.
