History and ancestry sessions to start Sept. 4

August 22, 2019

Historian and educator Jo-Ann Vega will facilitate a variety of classes and discussion series this fall.

US 1917-1922: Twilight of the Progressive Era of Reform will meet for three sessions from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 5, 12 and 19, at South Coastal Library. The sessions focus on transformative changes in the United States wrought by industrialization, immigration, the push for equality, and U.S. participation in WWI. Registration is required. To register, call 302-539-5231.

Ancestry: Telling your Story will meet for five sessions from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Thursdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, at the Lewes library. The sessions focus on practical strategies and exercises, including mapping cultural inheritances, developing sketches and portraitures, and recognizing patterns. Many people are interested in telling their story but don’t know how to get started. These sessions will jump-start the process and let writers practice telling their stories. Registration is required, and space is limited to 30 people. To register, call 302-645-2733.

The Wisdom of Washington and Eisenhower will meet for eight sessions from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Wednesdays, Sept. 4 to Oct. 23, at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Lewes. The first and last of 12 generals elected as president and commander-in-chief were Washington and Eisenhower. Each came to the presidency as the indispensable American of their times with the earned trust of fellow Americans. Each was swept into office, served the country for decades, and prepared farewell messages that codified what they had learned about the continuing American experiment in self-government. What did they have to say? How current are their messages?

To be placed on a waiting list, call the Osher office at 302-645-4111.
