History book sale at Rehoboth Beach Museum set Sept. 22-23

September 14, 2023

An eclectic collection of more than 400 previously owned history books will be offered for sale at the Rehoboth Beach Museum from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22 and 23.

The books are from the collection of an avid history buff, the late Josias (Jay) Cromwell, of Rehoboth Beach and Baltimore. Cromwell’s interests included a broad range of subjects, including biographies, British and European history, World War II, the American Civil War and many others.

Notable titles include “The Last Lion,” William Manchester’s three-volume biography of Winston Churchill; Carl Sandburg’s four-volume biography of Abraham Lincoln; James Thomas Flexner’s four-volume biography of George Washington; and Shelby Foote’s “The Civil War: A Narrative,” a three-volume set.

All books are in used, but good condition and reasonably priced. All sales are final.

The collection is made available by Cromwell’s longtime partner, Mary Lou Kupfer. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Rehoboth Beach Museum.
