How to Start a Business workshop set Jan. 23 in Georgetown

January 14, 2019

Registration is now open for a free How to Start a Business workshop set for 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Small Business Development Center, 103 W. Pine St., Georgetown.

The content is for people wondering if they have what it takes to start their own business, or those who have entrepreneurial ideas but need assistance or financing to make them happen. Although the program is free, space is limited and preregistration is required.

"Whether you're interested in learning how to form your business, or you need financing, this workshop will provide answers to your questions," said David Root, director of the SBDC office in Georgetown.

The workshop is intended to help participants decide if they are conceptually, physically and financially ready to start a business. Workshop topics will include: exploring whether a particular business is the right one to start; risks involved in starting a business; types of business formation; licenses, legal and accounting issues; how to develop a business plan; creating a business timeline; and what business resources are available.

“January may be the optimal time to get started on your business planning,” said Root. “With the hectic holiday season behind us, we are now advising clients with a variety of business ideas, such as manufacturing, day care centers, marketing and social media consulting, service businesses, food trucks and retail shops. No matter what you plan to start, the workshops will help you determine whether you are ready and what you need to do to move forward.”
