Husband thanks all who aided his wife

June 25, 2019

On Saturday, June 15, my wife was hit by a car while riding her bike on Savannah Road. The Lewes Fire Department EMS brought her to the Beebe Healthcare Emergency Room with a head injury.

When the doctors there determined she needed care that was beyond the capability of Beebe, a prompt air evacuation to Christiana Hospital was executed. Her care continued there. She is recovering with great speed.

Besides thanking profusely the Good Lord and our friends who were there, I have written letters of gratitude to the Lewes Police Department, the Lewes Fire Department EMS, the Beebe and Christiana Emergency Department staffs for executing their duties in a professional, focused and attentive manner.

My purpose with this letter to the editor is to express my tremendous gratitude to the citizens who immediately and unselfishly reponded to a person in need before the arrival of the first responders. I will never know their names, but I want to thank them so very much.

From the person who immediately called 911, to the people who stopped traffic, and those who did their best to provide comfort. In particular to the woman in the yellow shirt – it is all I remember of her – who took charge until the arrival of EMS. She ensured my wife, who was unconcious, did not further her injuries by thrashing around.

She monitored whether CPR was necessary – by the grace of God it was not. I am especially thankful for her calm demeanor as it helped me as I was distraught beyond belief.

To all of you, thank you for your sense of citizenship and humanity.

With great gratitude,

Kent T. Woods
