Huxtable criticism is uncalled for

January 24, 2023

How is Russ Huxtable not living up to expectations? Freshman Sen. Russ Huxtable is being criticized by George Chambers of Lewes for not being a leader. I believe Mr. Chambers wrote this letter before Sen. Huxtable was sworn in Jan. 10. His letter was printed here in the Cape Gazette three days later.

Chambers complains the Democratic Party is embarrassed by Sen. Huxtable and they don’t have faith in his judgment or willingness to compromise.

This is an unrealistic and angry tone attacking Huxtable, and it is uncalled for. There are only six Senate Republicans total; each one sits on major committees. This is not a fair assessment based on the fact that the Legislature is beginning a new year.

It is with hope and optimism the new senator as chair of the Agriculture Committee will bring new perspectives and increase the number of meetings to address the concerns of the agriculture community. Sen. Huxtable also is vice chair of the Environmental, Energy and Transportation Committee. His duties will include being a member of the Veteran Affairs Committee, the Legislative Oversight and Sunset Committee and the Banking, Business, Insurance and Technology Committee.

The people of Sussex County and Delaware elected their senators in a free and fair election with the intention that all can work together in a non-partisanship Legislature for the greater good.
