I.G. Burton deserves re-election

August 28, 2020

I’ll be honest, I don’t live in Sussex County District 3, I’m not even a registered Republican, but I am firmly in support of I. G.  Burton.  Why?  I. G. Burton not only serves his constituents but cares about all of Sussex County.  I live in the Angola area and was involved in the fight to keep a 7-Eleven off the corner of Angola Road and Route 24.  I. G. knew it was not a good fit and helped to deny that development.  We who live here were very grateful for his support.

Councilman Burton was instrumental, along with Councilman Doug Hudson, in the purchase of 17.5 acres close to that same corner.  That land will now be preserved as much-needed green space in our corner of Sussex.  He also helped to negotiate the purchase of Jones Farm in Lewes.  I.G. realizes we need a balance between development and preserving land in our county, and I hope he continues this effort in other areas of Sussex.

The need for buffers, both tree and tidal/nontidal, is also something he supports. So much of our land is under assault from developers and while they have their rights, why take down more trees for the sake of a few more homes, and why intrude on our precious waterways and wellhead areas?  Again, it’s a balance between the rights of people to sell and develop land, and the rights of those who live in areas ripe for development.  It’s not easy to satisfy everyone, but I trust I.G. Burton to make land-use decisions more closely aligned with my thinking.

His experience on Sussex County Council, Sussex Planning and Zoning, and in business helps make I. G. Burton a well-rounded and prepared candidate.  He has integrity and while I may not always agree with his decisions, I believe he cares about the quality of life we who live in Sussex County deserve.  He has teamed well with my councilman, Doug Hudson, and I’d like to see that team continue for years to come.  It’s simple; we need I. G. Burton to continue on Sussex County Council.
