On Sunday, Spain beat defending champion Argentina, in the World Cup final by the score of 1-0. Spain finally scored in the second half of extra time, but they could’ve scored four or five other goals in the game. They completely dominated. Spain had 20 shots to Argentina's 2 and Argentina only recorded their shots in the extra time, after they had fallen behind. Argentinian goalie, Emiliano Martinez, had a great game, and that was the only reason this game was close. I don’t understand why Argentina decided to park the bus for the entire game. I get the fact that Argentina is a much older team than Spain, but this was the last game of the entire tournament, so there was no reason to save energy. At least there were plenty of great games leading up to this major dud.
In golf, Ryan Fox won the British Open. He is a 39 year old late bloomer from New Zealand. He was one of a number of players who tied the mens major championship low score record with a round of 62 during the tournament. Fox won the tournament by shooting birdies on four of the last six holes, including the final hole to avoid a playoff with Cameron Young who shot a final round 64. I was rooting for Sam Burns to win his first major tournament since he has been very close in the number of majors in the last year and a half. He finished third, one behind Young.
The Phillies are definitely going to make the playoffs this year, but I don’t know how much of a deep run they can make since they are so inconsistent these days. For a few games, they can look like a very successful team, and then they can look like they have no clue what’s going on. It has been very frustrating to watch so far, especially because the team is full of veterans.
I had hoped that I could report on LeBron James decision as to where he is going to spend his last one or two years in the NBA, but not this week. I don’t know why it’s taking so long.
