Inside tours of Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse to resume in summer 2018

February 16, 2018

After nine long years, the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation has announced the resumption of tours inside the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse. A new dock was completed in September 2016, and restoration of the interior and exterior in 2017 has prepared the lighthouse for summer 2018 tours.

Attendees will depart from the Cape May-Lewes Ferry terminal and sail around the Delaware Breakwater East End Light for photos before proceeding to the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse for the tour. Once inside, patrons will be able to climb the stairway to the watch room and see the light turning in the lantern room. Each floor offers a stunning view of the national Harbor of Refuge. Volunteers will be on hand to talk about the history of the lighthouse.

Money raised from the tours will be used to fund ongoing maintenance of the lighthouse.

The four tours are set for 12 p.m., Saturday, June 16; 3 p.m., Saturday, July 21; 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18; and 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22.

For more information, go to www.delawarebaylights.org or call 302-226-3866. Early reservations are recommended. Minimum age to participate is 12 years old.
