Irish Eyes announces grand marshal for St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The Milton St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee recently announced its selection of Steve Crawford as the 2020 parade grand marshal.
In the seven years Crawford has been a Milton resident, he has made quite an impact. “He certainly didn’t waste any time getting involved in this community,” said Maryellen Kiernan, parade committee president. “I’m told Steve and his wife Judy were thinking about retiring but they weren’t sure where to. Vincent Varrassi suggested they visit Milton, and they immediately fell in love with the small town feel and friendliness of this area.”
Almost immediately after his arrival, Crawford became involved with the Milton Economic Development Committee as secretary. After that he was appointed to the board of adjustment and is now its chair. A few years later, Crawford led the initiative to get a mural painted on the wall of Irish Eyes welcoming visitors and celebrating Milton history. Through that successful effort, he was asked to join the Milton Community Foundation, of which he is now president.
Kiernan said, “Steve is a clear choice because of his commitment to Milton. He has a positive outlook, and he is an excellent leader. I am pleased to be on the board of the Milton Community Foundation with him.”
Steve and Judy have been married for 10 years. Between them they have five children and five grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, working on model trains and tooling around town in his 1968 Buick. He is an AT&T retiree and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving 1967-71 as a jet engine mechanic and staff sergeant.
“We love all the new friends we have made since moving to Milton. Of course, getting involved is the key to meeting people who can become your friends,” said Crawford.
